Introducing Map Views: A Modern Approach to Territory Planning with Retail Store Geo-Tagging

With our latest 8.2.0 release a powerful new feature has been to the portal: Map View for Customers and Distributors. This capability gives teams a geographic lens to analyze customer and distributor data, perform quick actions, and uncover insights about coverage and distribution density.

What the Map View Offers

1. Customer and Distributor Visualization

Users (Admins and Sales Team) can now view all customers or distributors assigned to them directly on an interactive map. Data points are clustered for easier navigation in high-density areas. By clicking a cluster, the map zooms in to reveal more detail, right down to individual customers or distributors.

2. Mini Profiles with Quick Actions

Clicking on a marker opens a mini profile card for the customer or distributor. From this card, users can access the full profile or, in the case of unapproved customers, approve or reject them directly. This provides context for decision-making, especially when there are overlapping stores in the same area.

3. Layer Options

Two map styles are supported:

  • Roadmap: A standard street view for everyday use.
  • Hybrid: A satellite view for deeper geographic context.

4. Heat Map Layer

The heat map displays customer density, highlighting areas of high and low coverage. Darker regions represent higher concentration, while lighter areas indicate fewer customers. This helps teams quickly identify:

  • Where their reach is strong.
  • Where there are gaps in numeric distribution.
  • Which territories may need more store onboarding or sales rep focus.

5. Filters and Search

The feature includes extensive filters to refine the view. Users can filter by:

  • Approved vs. unapproved customers.
  • Profile completeness.
  • Customers without location.
  • Unassigned customers.

Search options also allow quick lookups by customer name or mobile number.

6. Distributor Map View

The same experience is extended to distributors. Users can view, search, and filter distributors on the map with the same clustering, layers, and heat map options available for customers.

Key Use Cases

  • Coverage Analysis: Sales leaders can understand where their numeric distribution is strong and where new stores need to be added.
  • Duplicate Handling: Approvers can spot overlapping stores in the same location and decide whether to reject duplicates or edit existing profiles.
  • Resource Allocation: By analyzing heat maps, teams can reassign customers or adjust sales rep workloads based on density.
  • Expansion Planning: Identifying regions with fewer customers helps prioritize growth efforts in underpenetrated areas.

Performance Considerations

The system is designed to handle large datasets, including scenarios where customers run into hundreds of thousands. Clustering ensures smooth visualization, but filters are recommended when working with very large datasets to improve performance and usability.

Why It Matters

With this release, we aim for Map Views to do much more than simply display data on a map. Our goal is to make territory planning more interactive, insightful, and connected than ever before. Combine Interactive Map Views with BeatRoute’s route optimization, beat plan management, and the Scheduling AI Agent, and you have a comprehensive toolkit for complete command over your coverage strategy.

This approach enables sales and distribution leaders to quickly identify opportunities, address gaps, and make confident decisions with real-time geographic insights. With Interactive Map Views at the center, territory planning becomes more effective and keeps your teams ahead in a changing market.
